Problem of Fast Weight Loss Diets - Why fast weight loss diets do not work

Everyone with overweight problems would like to achieve a healthy body weight as fast as possible. There are countless so-called fast weight diets which promise dramatic weight loss in very short period. The truth is that you can lose the excess pounds very rapidly with the vast majority of fast weight loss diets but there is a catch.

All fast weight loss diets base on extremely low calorie intake often almost on starvation. If you have ever tried a fast weight loss diet you already know they do not work for two reasons: you have either gave up before reaching optimal body weight or you regained all lost pounds as soon as you started eating “normally”. The main reason for inefficiency of fast weight loss diets lays in the fact that they are not sustainable over the long term, while healthy weight loss and weight maintenance require permanent change of diet habits. Besides that rapid weight loss (over two pounds per week) usually means you are losing water or muscle weight and not fat.

Loss of no more than two pounds per week may seem slow but it is important to keep in mind that you did not become overweight overnight either. Dramatic weight loss in a very short period is not only inefficient way to lose weight and maintain optimal body weight but it also represents certain health risks. You need to obtain all the necessary nutrients through food even when being on weight loss program and you certainly cannot obtain enough vitamins, minerals and other nutrients essential for health by eating only cabbage soup and drinking water.
