Chitosan Weight Loss Pills - Facts about chitosan weight loss pills
Chitosan weight loss pills often called the “Fat Magnets” are among the most popular weight loss products. Chitosan is a fiber deriving from powdered shells, cramps and other shellfish and is heavily advertised to block absorption of fats ultimately leading to weight loss without changing diet habits. Would not that be great? Unfortunately, there is no magic pill which would do everything on its own and chitosan is no exception.
In theory chitosan should bind to fats obtained from food and preventing them from being absorbed and stored, lower cholesterol levels and promote weight loss. Scientific studies have shown that it may be helpful in blocking absorption of fats in combination with low calorie diet but without change of eating and exercise habits chitosan is not effective for weight loss. Use of chitosan supplements is relatively safe. It is a source of fiber and as such it is good for weight loss but it can also cause adverse effects such as constipation and other gastrointestinal complaints, while long-term effects on health are unknown. One of the main dangers of chitosan as “fat trapper” is interfering absorption of good fats and of fat-soluble nutrients such as vitamins A and D which are essential for health.
As you see chitosan may not be so effective and harmless as being marketed even if it is a natural fiber and if there are no known health risks so far. Like in use of every other weight loss product you are highly recommended to be careful if using a chitosan supplement. Do not use chitosan products if having allergy to seafood.
