Weight Loss and Exercise - Importance of regular exercise for weight loss
Overweight and obesity are widely associated with excessive consumption of foods high in fat and low in nutrient content. Permanent change of dietary habits is crucial for both weight loss and healthy body weight maintenance but adequate physical activity is as important as change of diet. Overweight is caused by a combination of unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle which means that every weight loss program should include both change of eating and exercise habits. Despite that many people tend to ignore the importance of adequate physical activity which is one of the main reasons of unsuccessful weight loss.
Health experts typically recommend at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week for both successful weight loss and weight maintenance. It does not seem a lot but if being physically inactive for a longer period 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week can be a challenge. Start with mild form of exercise, for example taking short walks in the park and gradually increase the pace of your walk. When you become more fit you can start with more intense exercise but you do not have to do it all at once. You may break up your exercise into 10 or 15 minute sessions because you will burn the same amount of calories than in a 30 minute session.
Any form of exercise is a good choice but you are highly recommended to choose type of physical activity very carefully. Like diet, exercise habits require permanent change as well. It is better to choose a type of exercise which you enjoy even if you burn less calories. That way you will be able to stick with your exercise plan a lot easier. Try different types of exercise to find the one that suits you best and keep in mind that every form of physical activity helps you burn calories and achieve results that last.
