Weight Loss Mistakes - The most common mistakes in weight loss
Do you fail to lose weight or maintain a healthy body weight once achieving it? If the answer is yes you are definitely doing something wrong. The most common mistakes people make when trying to weight loss are:
Inappropriate weight loss diet. Successful weight loss requires dietary changes but many people fail not because they are unable to give up unhealthy eating habits but because they choose inappropriate weight loss diet. Eager to lose excess weight as soon as possible many people often make too drastic dietary changes which are very difficult to stick with and impossible to follow in long-term. A weight loss diet which cannot be followed in long-term always results in weight regain shortly after completing the diet, while many people give up before they even achieve a healthy body weight.
Inadequate physical activity/poor choice of exercise. Some people believe that dieting is enough to lose weight. The others that are aware of the importance of adequate physical activity for successful weight loss often fail because they choose a form of exercise they do not enjoy. Both approaches are among the most common mistakes people make when trying to lose weight for two reasons:
- Dieting alone is not enough because overweight is caused by both unhealthy diet and inadequate physical activity.
- Poor choice of exercise eventually results in cessation of regular exercise.
Unrealistic goals. Many people, especially women are convinced they must look like the extremely thin models they see on television and magazines not being aware they strive for unreachable and unhealthy goals. Thin does not equal healthy.
Failure of weight maintenance. Weight loss is not an easy job but weight maintenance may be even a greater challenge. The main reason for failure of weight maintenance is a poor choice of weight loss program which does not foresee a healthy body weight maintenance once achieving it.
